Downtown Johnson City Family Photographer

Boy, do I have a story to share with you. This was the day I was humbled.

Last month, the week before Mother’s Day, Andy went out of town for work. This was the first time, that I can think of, that I was home alone overnight with all three kids. Obviously I know I can handle it, but still, it’s a lot. Andy left early Sunday morning and I had a quick family session planned with the wonderful Strouds later that day in Johnson City. My mother-in-law came over to watch the kids and I took off.

The Stroud Family

Jordan and Josh had their baby boy Finn just a month or so before we had Benny. Jordan and I were both super pregnant at their maternity session we photographed, which was so fun. It was exciting to see their family again and see how they’ve changed after having their first baby. When we met up in downtown Johnson City, the family was about to go to a friend’s graduation party nearby and the weather wasn’t looking great. This was just a mini session, so we quickly took their photos and chatted, then we parted ways.

The freak out begins.

About five minutes later I was sitting at a redlight and checked my camera to see how the photos turned out. (Before I continue I want to remind you that I also just had a baby and this was my first session I had shot since before giving birth to Benny. My shit was not together.) The way my heart dropped into my stomach when I realized I didn’t have a SD card in my camera… My cheeks immediately got hot. I called Andy freaking out and cried the entire way home. Literal mental break down.

If you know me, you know I take pride in my professionalism and my work. Photography has been my life since I was a kid. Knowing I was going to have to tell Jordan what happened made me sick with embarrassment. When I got home I sent her a text before I even went in the house, profusely apologizing and basically offering the world. My MIL went home and I was left with the kids again. Around 7:30pm I received a text back from Jordan who found the whole situation hilarious and they said if I wanted to come back to downtown Johnson City they could sneak away from the party.

Sometimes you have to laugh it off.

Y’all, I threw my kids in the car, picked up McDonald’s chicken nuggets and booted my way to Johnson City. Before getting out of the car I checked my camera a million times to make sure the card was in, batteries were good, and all my settings were right. Nothing could go wrong. I could not screw up a second time.

We all three laughed, I may have cried a little, and we took amazing photos. The weather actually cleared and was way better this go around and the lighting was beautifully overcast. Although I am still so ashamed of the fact that I let that kind of accident happen, it really did work out for the better. And I have a funny story to tell.
